A Free Toolkit for School Psychologists
You are welcome to download a toolkit for school psychologists
created by Reading Rockets and NASP. The kit contains resources
to help you get more involved in the development of comprehensive
research-based reading programs in your school district; apply evidence-based
strategies to your assessments of students with reading difficulties;
help students become good readers; and keep more kids from unnecessarily
entering special education.

National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities (NJCLD)
NASP is one of 13 organizations that comprise the NJCLD. The mission of the NJCLD is to provide multiorganizational leadership and resources to benefit individuals with learning disabilities.
Adolescent Literacy and Older Students With Learning Disabilities (2008). This report describes the adolescent literacy problem, its consequences, and factors that contribute to it. It provides guiding principles for assessment, instruction, and professional development, concluding with recommendations for short term and future consideration. - AdLit.org offers resources to the parents and educators of
struggling readers and writers in grades 4-12. The site includes research-based
articles, instructional material for classroom teachers, an Ask the Experts
feature, a blog by a librarian and children's book reviewer, tips for parents,
book recommendations, exclusive interviews with top authors, and a free monthly
e-newsletter.
- Colorín Colorado is a bilingual website designed for the parents and educators of English Language Learners. The website gives Spanish-speaking parents a wealth of information in their native language and gives teachers the information they need to be more effective in working with children for whom English is a second language.
- Get Ready to Read! offers skill-building early literacy activities, literacy environment checklists, online games and other resources, in addition to a free online version of the screening tool.
- LD OnLine provides information about learning disabilities and ADHD to over 200,000 people each month. The site features hundreds of articles, multimedia, first person essays and children’s writing and artwork. Monthly advice columns by noted experts, active forums, a comprehensive resource directory, and a Yellow Pages referral directory help parents, teachers, and people with learning disabilities decide what to do.
- National Center for Learning Disabilities’ Transitioning
to Kindergarten: A Toolkit for Early Childhood Educators is a comprehensive resource for educators that includes tools and materials to help implement strategies to facilitate and enhance children's transition to kindergarten. The toolkit has been posted with permission from NCLD.
- Reading Rockets looks at how young children learn to read, why so many struggle, and what we can do to help them. The website includes an archive of articles, professional development webcasts, interviews with children's authors, a daily headline service, two blogs, and much more. The Reading Rockets project also encompasses programs produced for PBS, including A Tale of Two Schools and a series called Launching Young Readers.
