NASP's Minority Recruitment and Retention Task Force
PowerPoint presentation on the results of the survey given by the Minority Recruitment and Retention Task Force.
The Minority Recruitment and Retention Task Force was a 2003-04 and 2004-05 presidential initiative designed to increase and retain minority representation in NASP. The task force specifically targeted current school psychologists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who were not members of NASP, or who were members of NASP but not actively involved.
To reach potential members, the task force sponsored trainings in areas that employ large numbers of minority school psychologists: Washington, DC, Jersey City, New Jersey, Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, Yorba Linda, CA, and Los Angeles, CA. In addition, 2003-04 NASP President Dan Miller gave a keynote presentation in the Chicago Public Schools.
A Minority Recruitment Survey was also created to obtain information about effective recruitment strategies, reasons why more school psychologists of color are not joining NASP, and ways to increase minority representation in NASP. For survey results, please refer to the June 2004 issue of the Communiqué (Vol. 32, #8).
The task force's efforts resulted in well over 100 new NASP members from minority backgrounds. Fulvia Franco and Tonika Duren Green co-chaired the task force. Task force members included Antonio Hughes, Jennifer Kitson, Dan Miller, and Robin Satchell. The important work started by the Minority Recruitment Task Force will be incorporated into and carried out by the Multicultural Affairs Committee.
