NASP Graduate Student Research Awards

The NASP Research Committee supports student-initiated research through its Graduate Student Research Awards (GSRA). Up to four $1,000 awards are made each year to students who demonstrate exceptional ability to conduct high-quality research that furthers the mission and goals of NASP and has the potential to impact the field positively. GSRA recipients are eligible to receive $500 Travel Grants to present their research at a future NASP convention.

Eligibility and Application Information

NASP student members in either doctoral or non-doctoral school psychology training programs are eligible to apply. Applications are available in the spring for awards to be made at the next NASP Convention.

2008 Award Winners

Allison Dempsey, MA, MEd

Allison Dempsey is a fourth year doctoral student at the University of Florida. Her interests are related to prevention of psychosocial problems and working with children with chronic illnesses. Allison plans to complete her dissertation this school year and attend internship next year. Her career aspirations are to work in an academic setting where she will conduct research and engage in clinical work related to systems-level prevention and pediatric school psychology.

Staci Lynne Bloom

Staci Bloom received BA degrees in both psychology and studio art from Indiana University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in school psychology at Fordham University. Staci provides bilingual consultation to parents and teachers, as well as bilingual psychotherapy and assessment to children in a school-based mental health clinic in New York City. Her research will examine both the cognitive processes of English language learning children who may be at risk for a reading disability and teachers’ perceptions of these students’ abilities.
